The Dentist

So Naomi went to see the dentist yesterday for the first time. (Yes we are a little bit late, however when you don't have extended dental coverage it is quite expensive). Anyway, so turns out I maybe should have brought her earlier. She has 4 cavities! The dentist actually told me by the look of her oral health he is surprised to see that she has cavities at all! However she has deep pits in her molars and this is where all the cavities are. On the top of her molars, not in between the teeth. Does this make me feel better that he says she has good oral hygene and that she must be just inclined to get cavities? Maybe a little, but the fact is she still has to get 4 teeth filled! He will do it in 2 appts because he doesn't think she could stay still for more than 30 mins at a time. Poor girl. She seems okay with it now. We'll see once she gets the first ones done how willing she is to get the other ones done on the next appt. He also says she has a "cross-bite" and that in a couple of years we may be looking at an appliance to help straighten that out! Kevin's been doing some work in her mouth and body work and her cross-bite is already starting to correct itself (it's great to be married to him!). Kevin's going to keep working on it everyday and then when I go into the dentist next week I'm going to ask him to check her crossbite again to see if he notices a difference. I'm sure he will because I could actually see that the top teeth were moved this morning after just one treatment!

for what it's worth, it might be genetic - both david and i take good care of our teeth and have both ended up with a lot of fillings over the years. something about soft enamel or something along those lines. poor kid. i feel her pain.
